Book Review - The Ugly Teapot, By Fred Holmes

So I will read just about anything.  I love to see how an author will develop their characters and see where they will go through the story.  I am a big advocate of helping out new authors getting their books out there for the world to see.  Each review gets those books more eyes, more readers.  That is something I want to help with, be a part of.  Today's review is no exception to that.

Book Title: The Ugly Tea Pot (Book One: Hannah)
Author: Fred Holmes
Publishing Date: March 24,n2016
Page/Word Count: 205 pages

BLURB:

Fourteen-year-old Hannah Bradbury loved her father so much that she worried about him constantly. After all, he was a photographer who traveled to the most dangerous places in the world.

To allay her fears, each time he came home he brought her silly gifts, each one with supposed magical powers: the Seal of Solomon, the Ring of Gyges, even Aladdin’s Lamp. It was that lamp Hannah found the most unbelievable, for it looked like an ugly teapot. Nevertheless, her father assured her it was real, and made her promise to save her three wishes for something very special.

Then . . . six months later . . . the unthinkable happened. Her father was killed while on assignment to Baghdad. And so on the day of his funeral Hannah did something she never thought she would ever do.

She took out that teapot and gave it a rub . . .

Pros: Great Characters, Great Themes
Cons: A little fast in some places
Overall rating: Great Book!!

Review:

So I got this book in exchange for an honest review.  I love when I get to read the first books in a series like this one.  I also love how this story is one that can appeal to so many different people.  It's geared for children, juveniles, but anyone will be able to follow it and get something from it.

Hannah is very close to her father and this book is all about how she would do anything to get him back. It was a very touching book and the love that Hannah has for her father is very evident from the get go.  You can tell she is struggling with his loss and turns to her dog, who she can telepathically communicate with, and to the things that her father gave her from each of his trips.

I don't want to get too much into the story, because it would give away the whole book.  The idea behind it though is a great one and it will keep you reading. The fasted paced, exciting turns will keep you wanting to know what will happen with Hannah next.

I think this book is a great story that can help with handle grief, showing that we all do it in our own ways.  I think this book would definitely be one that should be shared with others who are handling their grief in different ways.
